OTHER ITEMS

The Great Lakes section is very active this year.  Our members are involved with updating sections of the upcoming Skills & Knowledge 6th Edition study guide.  We are also active with SIGs (Special Interest Groups) via the National office and our section will once again be active in the national scholarship program.

Please contact a Board Member for further details or if you would like to get involved with these or any other activities.  Participating in these types of interests is a great avenue to expand your knowledge, become more active on a local and national level as well as providing a great networking forum.

NATIONAL NEWS

NATIONAL CONFERENCE

This year’s National Meeting was held in Nashville, Tennessee from July 15 – 18th.  This year’s meeting once again had numerous presentations on schedule and cost issues that many of our local members found beneficial.  There were also a large number of exhibitors present in the Exhibition Hall which allowed a great forum for networking with other AACE International members from other regions.

Next year’s National Meeting will be held in Toronto, Canada from June 29 to July 2, 2008.  The conference will be held in conjunction with the ICEC's 6th World Congress on Cost Engineering, Project Management and Quantity Surveying.  If you are interested in presenting a paper at the conference, please submit your abstract via the internet by October 12, 2007.  More information on this can be found on the national website, www.aacei.org.

LOCAL MEMBERS IN NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT

Robert D. Bakewell, CCC, has been awarded the Region Director of the Year Award.  Bob is the Director of Region 4 and was noted for the Regional meeting he organized in Indianapolis this past year.  In addition to the Great Lakes section, Region 4 also includes the Arabian Gulf, Central Missouri State University, Chicago-Midwest, Greater Cairo, Kuwait, Nigeria, Northeast Ohio, Northern West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Southern Africa, Southwestern Ohio, St. Louis, Tri-States and Wisconsin sections

Clive D. Francis, CCC, was also given a prestigious award.  Clive was presented with Award of Merit at this year’ National Conference.  The Award of Merit is one of the highest honors that AACE International bestows upon an individual. He has served as National President for the AACE International and continues to be involved with the national office on many forums and committees.  Clive continues to be one the best assets the Great Lake section has.

Congratulations to both Bob and Clive.
